Fallow Deer, the spotted deer of Europe and Asia, and the one chiefly seen in English parks aid game preserves. Aside from its color, it differs from other deer in having lorg, slender antlers which are flattened at the ends and branch, like the fingers from the palm. The fallow deer is found along the shores of the Mediterranean, where large herds graze upon tender grass or eat fruit and nuts. The skin makes a soft leather, the flesh is desirable and the antlers are of use in cutlery. The animal is so tame, however, that the species would soon be exterminated were it not protected by law.
